Luaus
The most significant celebration in Hawaii is a luau, held in ancient Hawaii to honor Kings and Gods and honored guests. So who could come to the Hawaiian Islands and not go to a Luau? There are many different  companies to choose from for this exciting island tradition. Join one of them on a cultural journey through Polynesia where a Royal feast nourishes both body and soul and magical stories of Hawaii fill your heart.
The common thread that winds through all luaus is an Imu Ceremony (the unearthing of the traditional pig from the ground) and an all you can eat and drink buffet. Keep your eyes peeled for poi, the Hawaiian food made from the taro plant. Although said by many whom have tried it to taste like wallpaper paste, it is a staple of the Hawaiian diet. Give it a try, you just might like it.
Following the feast will be live entertainment featuring a tour of songs and dances telling the story of the legends and lore of beautiful Kauai and the rest of Polynesia. And no Luau would be complete without a fire dancer at the end.
Our favorites are Luau Kilohana and Smith's Tropical Paradise, because they do a great luau with plenty of aloha, and they're situated on beautiful locations. Luau Kilohana is located on an old sugar plantation estate, and Smith's is located on a 30-acre botanical garden right next to the Wailua River.
Choosing a luau involves many factor such as the day of the week and the location and type of experience you are seeking. Do you want a grand scale show in an amphitheater complete with erupting volcano? Or perhaps you'd like to find a small, more intimate experience?
